Rufflets Hotel, St Andrews: The Best Luxury Hotel in Scotland

Exterior of luxury Rufflets Hotel in Scotland.

St Andrews is a home away from home for me, having lived here for 5 years. There are lots of hotels and B&B’s in St Andrews but the award-winning Rufflets Hotel is in a world of its own. This family-owned hotel is located just outside of the town itself, nestled in the charming Scottish countryside. The setting makes you feel like you’re staying in a private oasis and from the moment you arrive you’re treated like royalty.

If you’re looking for somewhere to eat, you don’t need to venture into town. Season Restaurant holds two AA Rosettes and they use fresh ingredients right from their garden. If you fancy a drink, the bar awaits with plenty of cozy seating areas to choose from. Rufflets is a hub of activity throughout the day, which shows just how much the hotel has to offer. If you’re visiting St Andrews for its golf appeal, or just exploring everything else that the town has to offer, you can’t go wrong with the best luxury hotel in Scotland.

A review of Rufflets Hotel

As soon as you arrive at Rufflets Hotel in St Andrews you’ll be able to see why it’s one of the most critically acclaimed country house hotels in Scotland. It’s not uncommon for the hotel to host weddings and large events either. It sits on 10 acres of beautiful gardens which are lovely to walk around on a nice sunny day.

Large double bed in luxury hotel room.

We were placed in one of two Turret rooms (room 11), which is known for being a famous golfer’s favourite room. Just one look at the room and it’s not hard to see why. The king sized bed is extremely comfortable and there are slippers for you to unwind in as well as a TV for you to watch from the bed.

You can buy Rufus the bear at reception too if you become attached to him. He’s used for the turn-down service so if you don’t want a turn-down at night all you have to do is sit him outside your room.

We had a lovely view of the gardens from our hotel room, and there were various magazines available to read about the area too. There’s also a set of binoculars provided for bird watching which you can do from the comfort of your private balcony. Tea and coffee is available in the room and you’ll find a tin with some delicious homemade shortbread inside.

Large bath tub in hotel room.

As well as a deep bathtub, there’s a very powerful shower in the corner of the bathroom that you should take full advantage of. And if you like the shampoo or soap provided you can purchase a set from reception. Our entire room at Rufflets Hotel was spotless and there were lots of towels and other amenities available.

Seating area in Scottish countryside hotel.

There are a couple of seating areas in the Rufflets Hotel, all luxuriously designed in a traditional Scottish style. You’ll also find a bar where you can grab a drink throughout the day.

The dining room is spacious and modern, with large windows letting in a lot of natural light. They have an award winning menu, so you’d be silly to miss out on the chance to dine here/ Very few accommodation options in St Andrews have such a critically acclaimed restaurant inside of them.

Scottish breakfast from St Andrews hotel.

There are lots of options at breakfast, both continental and hot. You can build your own Scottish breakfast too if you don’t like anything on the menu. I would recommend sitting next to one of the large windows so you have an excellent view of the beautiful gardens outside.

Rufflets Hotel in St Andrews is beautiful from every angle. There’s free parking available onsite if you’ve driven and it’s only a few minutes away from the famous golf courses that St Andrews is most well known for. Whatever reason you’re visiting St Andrews for, you shouldn’t pass up the opportunity to treat yourself to a luxury hotel stay in Scotland. You’ll find yourself pampered at every turn and won’t find a nicer hotel to stay at in the Kingdom of Fife than Rufflets Hotel.
